New Award Launched to Recognise Innovation in Lighting Design
PLASA and the PLASA Show are the joint sponsors of a new Entertainment Lighting Award, designed to give lighting designers across the industry recognition for their creative work.
The new Award is the most recent category to be added to the 2006 Lighting Design Awards, organised by Lighting magazine and the Institution of Lighting Engineers, and supported by the Lighting Industry Federation.
The UK has long been acknowledged as a creative hub, leading the world in the design of entertainment and events. The new award will be one of the few that actively champions the work of designers in this field, creating much needed wider recognition for the art and practice of lighting design.
For the last few months, PLASA has been working with the Lighting Design Awards team to develop the new category to ensure it reflects the innovation to be seen across the country. The judging team, drawn from experts across the industry, has been appointed and nominations are now being invited from designers and project teams across the UK, Ireland and the Channel Islands.
The award is open to theatrical productions, concerts, festivals, corporate events, exhibitions, temporary and one-off lighting installations. The short-listed projects and winners stand to earn not only the respect of their industry peers, but also publicity across a wide range of media - including national press and TV.
The deadline for entries is Thursday January 12th 2006 and an application form can be found on the LDA website at http://www.lightingawards.com/entertainmentlighting.asp. The event nominated must have taken place between 10 December 2004 and 9 December 2005. Judges will require full technical information on the installation with special emphasis on its unique and innovative elements. Additionally, the judges will be keen to see quality photography, as well as DVD or video footage of the event.
The awards ceremony takes place on 30 March 2006 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.
