Experts wanted for LCD standards

New international standard on LCD screens planned – experts wanted

PLASA has been made aware of a call to produce two new international standards for LCD multi-screen display terminals. The proposed New Work Items Proposal (NWIP) has been made to the IEC Technical Committee 100 which is responsible for standards creation in audio, video and multimedia systems and equipment.

PLASA invites any UK manufacturing member company to represent the AV side of the industry by nominating experts to sit on the working groups who will be formed under TC/100 at the IEC. At the moment, it is estimated that the meeting schedule will be about 2-3 meetings per year initially and those meetings will include worldwide travel at the company's expense. There is a participation limit on how many members from any country can sit on the working group (3) so as not to have unacceptable influence on the voting process. So, it's very much first come, first served basis as long as the delegate has the required expertise.

The 2 NWIPs are as follows:

  • LCD multi-screen display terminals - Part 1: Conceptual model
  • LCD multi-screen display terminals - Part 2: Measuring methods

The justifying statements from the Chinese's proposers (taken directly from the NWIP forms) are as follows:

For part 1
LCD multi-screen display system, widely used for its affluent display scope, attracts more and more display manufactures to seize this market. With such a huge market demand of LCD multi-screen display system, and the bank of industry standards, there is an urgent need to develop a standard for the conceptual model, which will give a brief introduction about the whole system as well as the terminology.

For part 2
If this is something that you or your company would like to be involved in, and would like more information and copies of the draft scope for these standards, contact Ron Bonner at PLASA: ron.bonner@plasa.org
