A proposal for the development of an occupational competency certification for an Event Technology Installer (permanent installations) was issued to the ECS.

The new training and certification scheme is in early development to underpin the occupational competency for an Event Technology Installer, and we welcome your views.
This occupation is found in the Entertainment and Event sector of the Construction Industry: in the installation and commissioning of technical equipment such as Theatrical Lighting fixtures and control systems, Entertainment Sound reinforcement and communications systems, AV display screens and control systems, Special Effects equipment, Stage Management desks and other technical production equipment.
Many of the specialist skills are common to those of the technical and production teams who use this equipment once it is installed, with the significant addition of the initial installation as part of a construction project.
ECS Process
To obtain an ECS card you must:
- pass the ECS electrical safety unit assessment,
- pass the ECS health, safety and environmental awareness assessment,
- and have proof of your occupational competency.
PLASA is developing a certification that will prove occupational competency for Entertainment Technology Installers.
Any route developed would be an ‘equivalent’ model, as used in the construction sector to secure a long-term future. Not only for access to construction sites but for a new certified role, to acknowledge the skills of those undertaking this work.
