We know work has not fully returned for many of you yet. However, as our sector starts to open up, you may experience increased demands due to a long period of not working.
In the interest of safety, the National Rigging Advisory Group (NRAG), with PLASA, has published new guidance entitled Skills fade and the impact on riggers returning to work following the lifting of restrictions on live events.
The guidance identifies the emerging issue of ‘skills fade’ among riggers who are returning to work following an extended period of industry closure, and highlights the potential impact of this upon skills, competence, and ultimately, safety.
Skills fade, which is defined as “the decay of any skill over a period of time when the skill is not practiced”, is of critical interest to riggers, and also to employers, contractors and venue owners who have a duty to ensure any rigging work is carried out safely.
Please feel free to share this guidance to help build understanding on this issue and promote safety across the industry. And don’t forget, we have several other guidance documents available to view and download.
