Changes to CSCS cards
For many individuals working in the entertainment industry, a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) accredited card is essential to access and work on construction sites across the UK. However, the CSCS has seen several changes over the last two years with a number of cards historically used within our industry being withdrawn including ‘Stage Equipment Installer’, ‘Site Visitor’ and ‘Related Discipline’. Furthermore, these cards will not be renewed.
Skilled worker application
Once these cards have expired, industry professionals with relevant construction training or qualifications may be able to apply for ‘Skilled Worker’ CSCS cards but many may only be able to apply for ‘Labourer’ cards which could affect their ability to work onsite without direct supervision.
CSCS training scheme
PLASA, the lead association for live entertainment technology, is looking to develop an industry specific training scheme for entertainment technology installers to meet CSCS requirements and gain access to UK construction sites.
The scheme will be aimed at professionals who do not work with electrics and could cover disciplines including: suspension of grids, static bars, tab tracks, projection/LED screens, fixing of winches, stage equipment, control equipment and speakers, and commissioning/programming of systems.
To begin the process of developing this new industry-specific scheme for construction sites, PLASA are seeking interested individuals or companies to form a working group. Please contact skills@plasa.org to express your interest.
