This PLASA Member Consultation and Conversation explored lithium battery use across the events and entertainment technology industry, highlighting current safety concerns and sharing research that could help inform future industry guidance.

The session featured Tommy Cockerham (The Royal Opera House), Dan Williams (University of Sheffield) and Robin Barton (Lamp and Pencil). Dr Peter Bugryniec, a leading expert in lithium-ion battery safety across sectors including automotive, marine and live entertainment, also joined the discussion to answer questions.

The session is relevant to anyone who uses or supplies lithium batteries within entertainment technology, including manufacturers, distributors, rental houses, venues, safety practitioners and end users.

Originally held as part of PLASA’s online Member Forum on 29 July 2026, it was the first of three discussions exploring key issues affecting the entertainment technology industry. The wider forum also covered sustainability and the Cyber Resilience Act, providing practical insight into emerging responsibilities, risks and opportunities for businesses.
