PLASA calls for Government action to protect live sector facing Omicron risk

With the Omicron variant casting a long shadow over the holiday season, PLASA joins fellow industry organisations in calling on the UK Government to act quickly to protect businesses throughout the live events and entertainment industry. Christmas and New Year is one of the most lucrative periods in the industry calendar, so it is vital that the industry aligns its efforts in calling for support.

The Government has yet to offer support for any sector, however speculation is building that the impacted hospitality sector will be offered support packages, and we believe that the live sector deserves support of equal measure.

Preliminary results of the PLASA and #WeMakeEvents survey conducted in recent weeks show that the industry was regaining confidence, but the recommendations from Government to avoid social events is causing widespread cancellations and huge monetary losses. The risks of undoing all the progress made this year are increasing moment by moment.

We urge all of our UK-based members to write to their local MP with a personal letter outlining your challenges and concerns. At PLASA, alongside #WeMakeEvents , we continue to do what we can to get our industry’s voice heard at Government-level.
